Plain English summary: Your student data belongs to your district. We store it securely in Google Sheets under your district's access. We never sell, share, or use student data for any purpose other than running HomeRoom for your school.
ClassLens is a classroom management software product ("HomeRoom") developed and operated by ClassLens ("we," "us," or "our"), based in Eastern Kentucky. We provide live classroom dashboards for K-12 school districts. You can reach us at support@classlens.live.
When your district uses HomeRoom, the following data is collected and stored in Google Sheets:
We do not collect Social Security numbers, addresses, grades, test scores, medical records, or any financial information.
All district data is stored in Google Sheets hosted on Google's servers. Data is processed through Google Apps Script. Your district's data is stored in a dedicated Google Sheet — it is never combined with or accessible by other districts.
Google's infrastructure is protected by industry-standard security measures including encryption at rest and in transit. For more information, see Google Workspace Security.
We use your district's data exclusively to provide the HomeRoom service. Specifically:
We never sell, rent, share, or use student data for advertising, analytics, research, or any purpose other than operating HomeRoom for your district.
Access to your district's data is controlled by a PIN-based authentication system with three tiers:
ClassLens staff have technical access to the Google Sheet for setup, maintenance, and support purposes. We will never access your data except when directly assisting with a support request, and only with your knowledge and permission.
ClassLens operates as a "school official" under FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) with a legitimate educational interest in the data necessary to provide the HomeRoom service. By entering into this agreement, your district designates ClassLens as a school official for purposes of FERPA compliance.
We do not disclose student education records to any third party without prior written consent from the district, except as required by law.
Your district's data is retained for as long as your subscription is active. Upon cancellation:

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify district administrators by email at least 30 days before any material changes take effect. Continued use of HomeRoom after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

By creating an administrator account in HomeRoom, you confirm that you are authorized to enter into this agreement on behalf of your school district, and that your district agrees to the terms of this Privacy Policy and Data Agreement.
